ANDREW SANCHEZ
keyboards
I started out playing in high school garage bands playing small party gigs and such. After high school played in other bands that went through member changes so often they never went anywhere. In one band, "THE EDGE", we played original material. This was my first collaboration with a drummer and guitar player that could really play. They were "jazzers" and were well acquainted with odd meters and key changes etc. We wrote a couple of progressive sounding songs that were pretty good for a couple of kids writing for the first time. We were on the "cutting edge" so to speak in that we were playing danceable pop type music (Cars, Romantics, and Producers) years before they reached commercial success.
After this band fell apart, I got together with my brother and a friend and we started our own jingle production company, Audiographics. We wrote, arranged, played, and produced the music for various local and regional commercials. We wrote the theme music for a few shows, which aired on PBS that in the second, and third seasons were broadcast across the country. We were also interviewed and came out on a PBS show called Artbeat, which was a show about regional artists and musicians.
My influences in music? In 1973 when I first heard ELPs Brain Salad Surgery and Yes Close to the Edge, I was really floored by the sounds that came from the keyboards they used. This coupled with the fact that my eldest brother had already been playing keyboards in a band lead me to pick up the keys. Since then, some of my main influential bands have been: Happy the Man, pre 80s Genesis, Gentle Giant, Camel, ELP, and pre 80s YES.
I had really given up on the idea of finding a band with interest in this type of music, until hearing Power of Omens music! This is like a newer, updated sound of the bands I grew up listening to. I am real impressed by the music and talent of everybody in the band and really am looking forward to the future!
